Surya Trataka

Steps For Surya(Sun) Trataka
-
Go outside, close your eyes and put your face up to the sun.
-
Move your head slowly left and right (just like pendulam does) which will allow the natural light into your eyes. This allows the light into your retina and improves overall vision.Be sure to close your eyes.
-
cover your eyes with your fingers till You should see blackness.
-
Repeat the above steps upto 10-15 minutes.
-
Note that the best timing for sunning for eyes is after sun-rise e.g if the sun rises at 6 a.m then you can take upto 7 a.m. During winter it can be done at any time when the sun is visible.
Steps for Palming
-
Find a comfortable position. Sit at a table with your elbows on a cushion.
-
Place your palms on your cheekbones, and cover your eyes with your fingers.
-
Close your eyes. You should see blackness. If you see lights or colors, it means that your optic nerve is not relaxed. Longer periods of palming will help you to see blackness.
-
Repeat the above steps upto 15-20 minutes.

Power of Visualization
The two most helpful and affective visualizations during a palming session are:
-
Tracing the figure eight
Try to visualize a figure eight and trace it while performing the palming exercise. This fluid movement helps in increasing the flexibility of your eyes.
-
Visualize increasing blackness
What you have to do is visualize total and increasing blackness. Paint yourself black, your whole neighborhoods black and go as far as your imagination can take. This is best method to soothe your eyes for a longer period of time. We chose Black and not any other color because black allows the optic nerve to relax.
Breathing important during palming
Always inhale and exhale slowly while palming. The best way to do this is to count to 8 when breathing in and count till 12 when breathing out.In addition to this try to visualize your abdomen rising slowly when inhaling and falling gently when exhaling. This helps in relaxing your whole body in addition to the eyes as without a healthy body you will not be able to peak at the right time when performing an activity.
